Artwork of the Week - ‘Argyle Street’ by Doreen Kay

This week, we bring you ‘Argyle Street’, a drypoint print by Project Ability artist Doreen Kay, as our Artwork of the Week! Doreen has managed to capture the essence and familiarity of Glasgow’s bustling Arygle Street perfectly in this piece, from the facades of the buildings to the buses on the road and group of figures waiting at the bus stop. The mood of a grey Glasgow day is conveyed through grey and blue ink tones. Doreen is a skilled draughtswoman and this strong ability has transferred beautifully into the medium of print.

Argyle Street’ will be included in the exhibition Perceptions 2016: The Art of Citizenship in Cork, Ireland, along with a group of prints made by Project Ability artists who attend the Aspire programme. The artwork in Perceptions 2016: The Art of Citizenship has been selected from worldwide submissions from artists working in supported studios, and runs from 9 September – 29 October 2016.
