Artwork of the week is this delicately drawn iPad creation by Tanya Raabe-Webber. Working on the iPad is still a relatively new medium for Tanya, who is more accustmed to acrylics, oils, inks and canvas. ‘Artists in Conversation 3’ is one of a series of 5 iPad drawings in our current exhibition #SummitPortrayed. Last week Tanya led five workshops in our gallery with school children from across Glasgow, Paisley and Kirkintilloch. Each were given an easel, canvas, brushes and paint – they were then asked to paint portraits of each other. Tanya also had them trying out the iPads to make their own digital portraits. These painted and digital portraits will make up our next exhibition!
The feel these iPad drawings give is one of a very light touch and clean appearance. Printed out on quality artist’s paper; these five drawings force the viewer to think twice about what medium was used. They look a little like pen or pencil, but something about them tells you neither of those have touched the paper. They juxtapose the rest of the exhibition which is very visceral and painterly, giving the whole show a wide ranging feel of mediums and techniques. The exhibition finishes at 5pm on Saturday, so if you haven’t seen it yet you still have time.
