Presentation by Consuelo Servan and Jonathan McKinstry at art in the gart

From the 3rd to the 7th August 2015, artists Consuelo Rosa Servan and Jonathan McKinstry worked together in The Growing Spaces of art in the gart at Gartnavel Royal Hospital..

Based in The Summerhouse and The Walled Garden, they were inspired by the location, the mature gardens and more recent plantings and drew on their surroundings to produce a series of botanical drawings which were translated onto the fabric of a piano which is on loan to the hospital from the Glasgow Piano City project (

“It was a new and an engaging experience because I was close to nature, drawing from life. I’ve never seen so many bees in one place. It was a tranquil environment, away from distractions.
It was a new experience, applying the paint to a musical instrument, because it was a different texture and feel to a traditional canvas.”

-Jonathan McKinstry

The piano will remain at Gartnavel for the foreseeable future. The grand reveal will take place at a public event on Friday 28th August at The Summerhouse at 1pm.
