Project Ability Workshops at Gartnavel

Artist and tutor Meredith Crone has been working at Gartnavel Hospital, providing workshops. Here's how it's going so far in his own words:

'Each of the three Adult Admission wards in Gartnavel Hospital’s Psychiatric wing are in turn hosting blocks of twelve art workshops in conjunction with Project Ability which will run on a weekly basis.

Whilst being based in one particular ward the sessions are also accessible to patients from the other two. The first in these series of workshops has taken place in McNair ward .

Initially, attending artists were given a brief to create silhouettes and stencils that could be used to make images employing sprays and diffusers. The group has since moved towards working on a variety of drawing processes.

As well as utilising such traditional tools as pencil, pen and chalk the participants have also most recently been exploring mark making techniques, working onto inked up plates with cotton buds and creating mono prints. This has allowed playful approaches to develop alongside more measured and focused responses'.
