Walking group – Week 1

Walking group – Week 1

The first outing of the Project Ability Walking Group in 2014 was to the Lighthouse.

“As the weather was looking like it could turn nasty we decided to change from our planned walk and went to the Lighthouse in Mitchell Lane. Most of the group hadn’t been there before and were quite surprised by what we found there.

We decided to start at the top and took the escalators and lift to the sixth floor viewing platform where we spent some time looking at and discussing the view and taking some photographs. From there we worked our way down through the building visiting the exhibitions along the way, including an exhibition of architectural models of unbuilt Charles Rennie Mackintosh buildings and another on sustainable building materials.

The more energetic group members also went up the creaky spiral staircase to the top of the tower which is crowned with an open air viewing platform. Fortunately the weather had once again turned out fine so the light was good for taking photographs and our cameras weren’t in danger of getting wet!

A fascinating building with an interesting history and wonderful views of the city.”

The next outing will be to the Scotland Street School Museum, on Wednesday 22 January.
