Imagination and memory are Carole Lee’s reference material for her studio practice. Taking inspiration from people in shopping malls, busy bar scenes, bus-stops, parks and high streets, her work is an illustrative visionary delight, like a puzzle waiting to be deciphered through careful study.

The closer you look the more you will see. These ink drawings tell a story of people, and the places they inhabit around the city. The details seem endless, and the work continuously breathes new life into itself as your eyes study the image. The action and dialogue present in this work are infinite.

Carole creates montages of journeys to and fro and is highly influenced by the comic books she read when growing up; her characters portray the energy of the likes of The Broons of the 1960s, cut with that same wry sense of humour and pitched somewhere between the bar and the playground.

Carole is part of our ReConnect programme. The work chosen for this exhibition is a small selection of some of the many pieces Carole has made in the studios here at Project Ability.
