Light Space - Simon McAuley

Project Ability is pleased to present a solo exhibition by ReConnect artist  Simon McAuley which concludes the solo showcase season 2013.

Simon will be presenting a series of new works made, during and since, the recent residency at Celf O Gwmpas Gallery, Wales in September 2013. These new paintings demonstrate the artist’s on-going pictorial exploration through colour and brushwork, which build to create mutable surface variations.

The artist shows an understanding of the basis of painting – colour, materiality, texture and line – to reveal an explicit materiality. The materiality in his work is both sensuous and tactual, a sensation heightened by viewing these works as they have developed slowly over time. Painted surface and the painter’s touch are crucial elements in this highly refined personal examination of the optical and material properties of painting.

Simon will be presenting an artist talk to coincide with the opening on Wednesday 13 November 1-2pm, where he will talk about his influences, photography practice and residency in Wales.

Alongside painted works on canvas, Simon McAuley’s photographic works will also be presented in a catalogue to be launched at the exhibition opening.
