Pupils attend an exhibition at St Mungo’s Museum of Religious Life to celebrate the launch of a CD Rom that showcases their artwork.

On the 1st March 2004, pupils from six Glasgow schools were treated to some time out of the classroom to attend the launch of a CD Rom showcasing their artwork at St Mungo’s Museum of Religious Life .   The event was organised by Project Ability to celebrate the pupils work, and the end of an ambitious yearlong arts project.

In February 2003 Project Ability teamed up with Glasgow Museums' to pair four special educational needs primary and secondary schools, and specialist units from two schools with Glasgow’s museums (The Kelvingrove Museum , The Gallery of Modern Art, The Transport Museum, St Mungo’s and The Burrell Collection). The aim of the project was to encourage the pupils to see the museums as informative, exciting and welcoming places. Each school chose to focus on and visit one particular museum where they were given tours by the staff and were able to draw and photograph objects. Then they worked with Project Ability artists to produce their own art inspired by the Museums’ collections.

In addition to having their work shown in individual exhibitions in classrooms and corridors in their respective schools, a CD Rom has been made of work from all the schools and every pupil was given a copy to take home.

This project was developed in partnership with Glasgow Museums’ and supported by the Better Neighbourhood Services Fund.
