Artists' Talks And Film Screenings
Project Ability is presenting a series of talks in conjunction with the 'Mental Image' exhibition. Each event will start at Project Ability at 5.30pm with an opportunity to view the exhibition. At 6pm we will move through to GMAC (Glasgow Media Access Centre) where there will be a screening of the 'mental image' film which features artists involved in the exhibition, providing an insight into their work. At 6.30 pm the guest speakers will begin their presentations.
Monday 15 October
- Aidan Shingler, artist, has worked in the field of visual art for twenty-five years and campaigns to reform the Mental Health system. His work is imbued with signs, symbols, synchronicity and significance. His presentation is an exploration of the spiritual and creative aspects of schizophrenia.
Tuesday 16 October
- Pum Dunbar, artist, has just completed the MRes Creative Practices course at Glasgow School of Art. Her presentation will focus on the research she has carried out as part of this course, which is an exploration of the relationship between the collaged image and autistic thinking.
Wednesday 17 October
- Joyce Laing, is an art therapist and curator of the Scottish Art Extraordinary Trust collection in Pittenweem. This talk will include a screening of ‘Hidden Gifts', a documentary film about the life and works of Angus McPhee, whose works form part of the collection. Nick Higgins, who directed the film will also contribute to this event.
Thursday 18 October
- Katy Dove, artist, will introduce and present the eight short animated films that she has made in a recent project with participants from Positive Mental Attitudes.

Interpretation Workshops
Writers group Lapidus will present a series of writing workshops in response to the Mental Image exhibition. Workshop participants will be invited to write a piece of poetry that responds to a chosen work. Writers will have an opportunity to present their poems in a reading that will be open to members of the public.
The workshops will take place at Project Ability on Monday 8, Tuesday 9 and Wednesday 10 October 2007 between 1:30 – 3:30pm. The reading event will take place on Thursday 11 October at 5:30pm.
