Projects for young people with autistic spectrum disorders

    young person at work

In 1999 the Scottish Society for Autism invited Project Ability to develop an art class specially tailored for young people with autistic spectrum disorders.

The purpose of the class is to provide a safe and secure environment where the young people can use a wide range of quality materials and resources to develop their artistic practice over time.

    Class structure

Classes take place on Saturdays (roughly following the school year) with three artists supporting eight children in each session to paint, draw, print, work with clay, and use computers. Each child is encouraged to respond in their own individual way.

    School Projects

Out with the Saturday art classes, we work in partnership with schools with Communication Disorder Units to manage digital video projects, and we have developed one-to-one animation projects with individuals from the art class who have expressed a flair for the digital arts.
