    Fundraising challenges and events

    By taking part in a fundraising challenge for us you will help improve the lives of those who attend our art classes. No experience is required for the challenge events with training given on the day, whilst the running events are suited to all abilities.

    Running events

     

    The Co-operaative Jog Scotland 5K Wednesday 24th June 2009

    Entry: £10 – sponsorship pledge £25.

     

    Use this as training towards a 10K run or run just for fun. Held mid-week in the summer evenings, with junior runs too.

     

    Ignis Asset Management Women’s 10K  - Sunday 10th May 2009

    Entry £24.50 – sponsorship pledge £55.

    The Ignis Asset Management women-only 10k has over 12,000 women of all ages and abilities run, jog or walk the course. To help you get started we can send you an ‘absolute beginners’ training schedule.

    Great Scottish Run 10K  - Sunday 6th September 2009

    Entry £27.50 plus sponsorship pledge £60.

    This event is for everyone – people of all ages and levels of fitness can take part with just a little bit of training. This year a mixed Project Ability team will enter. Winning teams will be based on the first four finishers (the rest of us can take our time!). We have an absolute beginners running schedule and you can enter the 5K (see above) as a wee warm up.

    Whether you're up for a leisurely ride or a personal best, join thousands of others riding from Glasgow to Edinburgh on the 50 mile route of Scotland's biggest and best mass bike ride.

    Challenge events

     

    Forth Rail Bridge Abseil - October 2009 date tbc

    Sponsorship pledge £95 plus advance sponsorship of £20 to reserve your place.

    This SAS style abseil is the ultimate adrenaline rush for the daring, and the ultimate challenge for the rest of us. We have a very limited number of places so reserve your place now. All training will be given on the day.

    White Water rafting in Perthshire - date tbc

    Sponsorship pledge £120 per person - that’s £950 between 8 members. You must register as a team of 8 to crew the raft.

     

    A great event which combines team work, determination and courage to safely negotiate the white water rapids. An alternative day out with friends or a work challenge.

     

    Parachute Jump – date tbc

    Sponsorship pledge £395 for a Tandem Skydive of which a £70 deposit is required.

    A parachute jump is a once in a lifetime experience. By raising the sponsorship you receive your parachute jump and training for free. Make your dream challenge a reality.

    Celine Mcilmunn is doing a second sponsored hike in aid of the 'Big Move' appeal! This May, Celine and Gerry Clark will embark on an Arran Adventure, walking over 100 kilometers around the coast, then hiking up Goat Fell. To sponsor their Arran Adventure click here.

    Carol Fraser is running the Ignis Asset Management Women's 10k. " My sister, Sandra enjoys attending the art workshops; painting, drawing, making jewellery and interacting with the group. I am raising money to assist their move from Albion Street to Trongate, and because I believe they provide a great service to my sister, and lots of others!"     Daniel Campbell raised a fabulous £62.50 by organising a coffee morning at Kibble School - well done to Daniel and all the pupils.

    Thanks to Pauline Jackson's dad and colleague Tommy Winters, staff at SGB donated £200 instead of receiving a Christmas bonus and raised a further £25 from a Christmas raffle.Thanks to all staff for your kind gesture and ongoing support.

    Derrick Berrie, brother of studios member Norrie, raised £80.47 by holding a Christmas raffle and club night in aid of the 'Big Move' - big thanks for your support.

     

    Colin Jarvie who completed ‘Eddies’ half marathon said ; “the views of a snow capped Ben Nevis just about kept me going throughout the run”. Colin, whose son attends our art classes, has raised a truly amazing £733.60 plus £108.03 gift aid at the last count. Well done Colin!

     

    Ian Mitchell is taking on not one buttwo challenging bike rides; he has successfully completed Pedal for Scotland and in May 2009 he will cycle the 82 mile Etape Caledonian in the hills ofHighland Perthshire. Having recently recovered from a heart attack Ian’s double challenge is even more inspiring – good luck!

    Joanna Morrison’s cousin attends one of our art classes and she is raising money for our Winter Appeal by organising a Christmas Panto at her University. Good luck Joanna!

     

    Alex, our Children and Young People’s Development Worker, and her partner Dougie had never run very far before but in September they completed the Great Scottish Run 10K in around an hour! They raised a brilliant £290.00 plus £125.49 gift aid in sponsorship from friends and family.

    David Melville, whose dad comes to Trongate Studios, raised a wonderful £210.00 in sponsorship when he walked Speyside Way from Buckie to Aviemore.

    George Ewan won £100.00 from the 100 CLUB and kindly donated his winnings to our Big Move Appeal.

     

    Celine Mcilmunn, our Studios Manager, and her partner Gerry Clark completed their long blistering 100 mile walk north and have raised a staggering £895.00 plus 125.49 gift aid – a truly amazing achievement.

    Allan McKeown, one of Project Ability’s artists, cycled the challenging 80 mile Etape Caledonia and raised £180.00 plus £50.76 gift aid.

     

    Project Ability’s very own Disco Divas Billy & Andy raised £204.50 plus £9.49 by holding a 60’s, 70’s & 80’s disco and participating in two sponsored walks in Arran.

     

    Margaret, Fiona, Sukhjit and Ann from French Duncan Accountants formed a Women’s 10K team and raised a tremendous £786.00 plus £135.94 in gift aid, in memory of Phil Oliver, a colleague and supporter of Project Ability.

    Jemma Gilchrist attends our art classes, with her support workers from Community Lifestyles she walked 5 miles of the West Highland Way and brilliantly raised over £300.00! Well done Jemma.

     

    Louise White is a volunteer artist with our Saturday class. Louise ran the Resolution Asset Management 10K in a terrific time and raised a fabulous £303.00 plus £73.28 gift aid for our Big Move Appeal.

     

    Volunteers Louise, Fiona & Anna organised a 5 mile sponsored walk along the Forth & Clyde canal for Project Ability’s participants. They raised £30.00 plus £8.46 in gift aid. Stephen Reilly personally raised £26.00 plus £7.28 in gift aid from the event - well done to everyone!

     

    Ross Bannerman ran the Amsterdam Marathon like a true professional in 3 hours and 6 minutes and raised £205.00 plus £57.81 in gift aid along the way!

     

    Ailsa Bannerman ran her first ever Women’s 10K in aid of Project Ability and raised a terrific £341.00 plus £84.88 in gift aid. Well done Ailsa.
