The Trongate Studios are situated in Glasgow's Merchant City, and are open throughout the year from 9 am – 5pm, Monday to Friday. The space is staffed by two trained artists who provide full-time artistic support for around 80 people who attend on a regular basis.
The Studios provide an understanding environment for anyone who is interested in exploring their creativity – no previous artistic experience is required to take part. Most of the time people work independently on self-motivated projects. They can also take part in a workshop programme that is designed to encourage new skills in a variety of mediums and techniques.By actively participating and engaging in dialogue with professional artists, people may experience a range of benefits that will positively affect their mental health.
The philosophy behind the Trongate Studios is that through positive encouragement and support people will develop a sense of self esteem and confidence.
The main body of the studios is divided up into small working spaces, with separate open plan areas for group work. Ceramic, printmaking, stained glass, woodwork and computing facilities are also available. There is also a gallery where the artists can show their work in solo or group exhibitions.
