"In my school days I was trained in the art of architectonic painting by William Baillie of Hamilton (1905-1999). These paintings are best described as 'constructions' rather than 'abstractions' for they refer to no external phenomena whatsoever. Their meaning relies entirely in and of themselves, that is purely as compositions of inter-related forms and as such are not open to interpretation - what you see is what you get. Any titles are for reference only."
