Reacting to Mackintosh

11 - 22 September 2006

The artworks in this group exhibition were created by artists from the Trongate Studios using the work of Glasgow's most famous artist, Charles Rennie Mackintosh, as a starting point to explore, inspire and develop their own individual artistic responses.

Each artist contributed to the show by researching a particular aspect of Charles Rennie Mackintosh's life and works.   The pieces that have been produced have been inspired by his textile and furniture designs, (e.g. the iconic motif of the rose), and by the architecture that Mackintosh is perhaps most recognised for.

The work produced ranged from original designs in stained glass, ceramics, textiles, drawing, and painting to 3-dimensional pieces.

The exhibiting artists were:

Hector Aitken, David Bradley, William J Bunting, Jim Feeney, Stephen Flannigan, Stephen Grimes, Craig Henderson, Maggi Higgins, John Hunter, George McIntosh, James McLaughlin, John McLean, John O'Connor, Bobby McPherson, Evelyn Marshall, Sian Mathers, Louise Maughan, Belinda O'Shea, Judith Patterson, William Smith, Caitriona Thompson and Cathy Watson.
