SCLD Artwork Commission

A visual representation of the human rights of people with learning disabilities.

Earlier in the year SCLD (Scottish Commission for Learning Disabilities) commissioned nine Project Ability artists to create a range of icons and illustrations. They were to be incorporated into the SCLD website and used across new marketing material, in line with the organisation’s brand and Pantone colours.

The 9 artists involved were:

The artists all worked together in the Project Ability studio with tutors Jason and Valerie . They talked together about initial ideas and inspiration for the work as well as looking at the SCLD branding and colours. They also discussed possible techniques that they might use to create the illustrations. Each artist created their own set of illustrations in response to SCLD wanting a visual representation of:

  • What human rights mean for people with learning disabilities
  • Writing reports
  • People having meetings and working together
  • People with learning disabilities having a voice

Over the next 7 weeks, we will be presenting each artist’s final set of illustrations along with their personal inspiration and thoughts behind the project. Make sure to follow Project Ability and SCLD on social media for the latest updates. You can also join our mailing list here.

This was an excellent project for our artists the be involved in and the final results are diverse and exciting.

If you have an idea for a project that one or more of our artists could be commissioned for then please email info@project-ability.co.uk. We would love to hear from you!
