We are delighted to announce two Project Ability artists have been selected to be part of this year’s annual Shape Open art exhibition, which launches on 30 June!
Cameron Morgan and Jonathan McKinstry are two artists working in Project Ability’s Aspire studios for learning disabled adults. Each artist has received notable recognition for their artistic practice, and both have exhibited widely around the UK and Europe. These two artists paired up to collaborate on a series of large scale paintings for SCLD (The Scottish Commission for People with Learning Disabilities) to celebrate Scotland’s learning disability awareness week in May of 2022.
‘The Right to Party’ is one of the paintings Cameron and Jonathan created together for the SCLD commission, and it is this painting that is part of Shape Open Arts 2022!
Above is a detail of the painting, and you can see the whole show via this link!
The show goes live at noon today.
Shape Open
The Shape Open is an annual exhibition of artwork by disabled and non-disabled artists created in response to a disability-centred theme. Held in high-profile, artist-led spaces such as Bow Arts’ Nunnery Gallery, Portobello Gallery, Yinka Shonibare CBE’s Guest Projects and our own pop-up galleries, The Open provides a space where disabled and non-disabled artists can discuss and exchange views and ideas about issues and topics which are often sidelined within artistic debate.
Artists are considered and appraised by a panel of arts industry judges, including Shape Open patron Yinka Shonibare CBE.
The Shape Open creates an opportunity for emerging and mid-career artists to raise their profile while allowing established artists taking part to show their work alongside new and fresh perspectives that they may not ordinarily encounter.
The exhibiting artists are:
