Project Ability and Art In The Gart have created the opportunity for an Arts Facilitator to visit Gartnavel Royal Hospital, Glasgow on a weekly basis since 2016. The role involves designing and delivering Visual Art Workshops to wards that provide inpatient psychiatric care to people experiencing mental health challenges in the North West of the city.
The idea was originally conceived as a kind of Arts Facilitation Residency that could provide longer term ongoing programmes but also have the flexibility to offer shorter term ‘pop up’ art workshops when and where there might be a need and demand for them. Working alongside Nursing staff and Occupational Therapists, we have introduced a wide range of artistic activities for patients to explore and engage with.
We also deliver a weekly visual art session in the hospital’s IPCU.
