Meet the Volunteer: Max McIlmunn

This week we are delighted to introduce Max McIlmunn.  Max began his relationship with Project Ability as one of our young participants in our Create film programme several years ago. We are delighted to have him return as a volunteer in the programme that he once attended.  Max has been a welcome face at reception and also assists our young film makers with their individual projects during our Thursday film workshops.  All of us at Project Ability would like to say a big thank you to Max for his on-going commitment to the project.  Here’s a little more about Max in his own words;

‘I first came to Project Ability in 2005 as part of the young film-makers programme. The first two films I had input on were ‘On The Run’ and ‘Why I Hate Art’. Originally we had been split into two distinct groups, one for On The Run and one for WIHA, but I ended up helping with visual effects on both movies. At the post production stage, I more or less fell in love with the editing software right away and spent what little time we had to edit poking at the various visual effects tools, seeing how best to incorporate the effects the movies needed.

The next year, I created An Important Warning, and it's still the film I'm most proud of.

In this film, I attempted to satirise the various on-going scares about the supposed harm mobile phones cause society in the form of an old 1930s propaganda piece. It was a fun project to work on, particularly due to some elaborate post production work, trying to emulate a specific style, and attempting to push the limits of what I could accomplish with the resources at hand.

More recently I have been volunteering on Tuesday nights, helping out the younger filmmakers with their own projects. Through Project Ability, I have also had the opportunity to create short documentaries for affiliated charities and events, including Art in the Gart, Solar Bear, and C-Change.’
