For this year’s Glasgow International Festival of Art, Project Ability have hosted an exhibition by needlecraft artist James Gladwell. James is a self-taught artist who makes embroideries that depict images from his dreams, memories and personal visions of the world around him. He draws his images onto pieces of cotton using a pencil and then stitches these lines with coloured threads. Our walking group sat together in the gallery after looking at James’s exhibition and made some embroideries of their own, some using imagery from James’s pieces and others working into images of their own. As the workshops are currently in between blocks it was a lovely way to catch up with each other and try something new.
Afterwards we had a walk to Queen Street and the gallery at the back of Cass Art to see the ‘Digging Down’ exhibition by the group In Cahootz. This was an intriguing exhibition that featured many ceramic pieces along with photography, sculpture, drawing and painting.
