Walking Group: GSA Degree Show

On Wednesday 7th June the walking group visited The Glasgow School of Art’s School of Fine Art degree show. We walked over the Clyde to the Florence Street Glasgow Metropolitan College building, where we saw work from the Master of Fine Art students. The exhibition is over three floors with work by 26 graduates. All with unique styles we saw installations, paintings, ceramics, sculptures and much more. Some personal highlights were Naomi Garriock, Julia Johnstone, Conor Martin-O’Dowd and Wendy Pan. The Art Department is a series of stunning paintings of children and teachers who are looking at a rabbit and drawing it. One painting depicts a young child lovingly petting a white bunny.

Johnstones Breath is a large canvas on the back wall of the ground floor, swirling colours mix together in a captivating way.Martin-O’Dowds ‘Limp Wrists Clenched Fists’ features pinned up flyers forming a history of queer culture, specifically ‘safe zones’ and how to preserve them with potential.Pan presents us with a installation surrounding the topic of menstruation from a Chinese perspective, sharing prints with stories and myths surrounding this often private topic. With her video installation she opens up discussions on ideas surrounding the fear of pregnancy.

The exhibition runs until 10th June.
