Walking Group Visit Ingleby Gallery and National Galleries of Scotland
On Thursday the 28th of March the Walking Group had a day trip to Edinburgh. We met around 10am at Buchanan bus station and set off for the day.
Once we arrived we headed straight to Ingleby Gallery in Edinburgh’s New Town. We met with Caroline Walker for a guided tour of her exhibition ‘Nurture’, a beautiful collection of paintings and ink drawings. Caroline’s work often focuses on women and here she has chosen to use the women in her children’s lives as subjects, nursery leaders, swimming teachers, health visitors and her mother all feature alongside her own two children. The ink studies were incredible showcasing, mostly, her young daughters day to day life at nursery and her science club. Caroline gave us a wonderful talk about her work and how long the massive paintings took to do. The detail is incredible, almost like a giant photograph. Her work is on display until June 1st.
Later, we went to the National Gallery, where we were able to have a spot of lunch, which was most welcome after getting caught in some bad rain. We spent some time at their newly opened Gallery of Scottish Art, much of which was religious or important Scottish figures. We also had some fun in the gift shop looking around. Then it was a quick walk to a bus stop to head home, it had now not only dried up was getting rather warm. All in all a good day!
