It was a bitterly cold day in Dundee but the sun was shining and we were planning on spending most of our visit indoors in the V&A Museum and Dundee Contemporary Arts Centre, with a little bit of walking in between.
After arriving by train, our first stop was the V&A and packed lunches followed by a look around the gift shop until it was time for our guided tour. What is it with museum and gallery gift shops? There are always lots of lovely things to admire but they are always so very expensive… apart from the one at Project Ability of course!
We then headed up to the first floor where we were met by Cat, our tour guide, outside the design gallery. Cat led us around the museum, picking out pieces along the way to give us some information and interesting stories about. It’s always good to have a knowledgeable guide. We were also keen to see ‘Thread Memory: Embroidery from Palestine’ Thread Memory: Embroidery from Palestine, an exhibition of hand made textiles and garments which was a feast for the eyes.
After this we ventured back out into the cold and took ourselves to a nearby bakery to make some delicious sweet purchases before walking along to DCA to see ‘We Contain Multitudes’, a group exhibition of works by four artists with disabilities: Andrew Gannon, Nnena Kalu, Daisy Lafarge and Jo Longhurst. This is a wonderful show which was made all the better by our guide Dan Brown who is the new Head of Exhibitions at DCA. Dan shared lots of information about the artists and the pieces on show with us before it was time to head back to the station and catch the train back to Glasgow.
