Our most recent walking group outing was to the Garnethill Gallery in Glasgow School of Art to see ‘War and Pieces of a Garden’, an exhibition marking the centenary of the birth of artist Ian Hamilton Finlay. The Garnethill Gallery is set in the foyer of the Reid Building at GSA and the exhibition was made up of prints, booklets and photographs from the GSA collections as well as some private loans. It’s understandable that many of the pieces were presented in glass cases, but we all felt we would like to see some of the pages inside the booklets. The height of some of the cases also prevented our wheeler Ruth from seeing some of the pieces at all.
From GSA we took a short walk to Grateful Gallery on the aptly named Hill Street. Here we saw ‘Oddacious’, an exhibition by OhPandah, one of the three co-founders of the gallery. Panda’s work will be familiar to many people in Glasgow as his ‘big heids’ decorate many walls in the city and we are also fortunate to have one in our tea room at Project Ability studios.
Ruth was concerned that there may be a step or two to access the gallery but she found there was no problem with wheeling in, despite there being a small raised bit at the doorway.
