‘Mother Curator’ at GSA and T.(——–) ‘Pressure, Light, Fire’ at Garnethill Gallery

Our latest group outing was to Glasgow School of Art to see ‘Mother Curator’, a group exhibition in the Reid Gallery, and had the pleasure of finding another exhibition in the passageway Garnethill Gallery. This display of artworks by Daniele Sambo called ‘T.(——–) ‘Pressure, Light, Fire’ consists of a series of blind embossing on paper pieces, photograms and terracotta sculptures created using man made marine debris collected on the Scottish coastline. The ‘T’ in the titles refers to Teratoma, a type of tumour that Sambo had experience of, and Tidewrack, the marine debris. This exhibition runs until 14 February.

‘Mother Curator’ in the adjacent Reid Gallery is a group show with a theme of motherhood, created by staff and student artists who are mothers. It’s a varied and interesting exhibition that our group enjoyed immensely but noted that one of the pieces was on a shelf placed so high on the wall that our wheelchair user Ruth was unable to see what was there. Perhaps it was a reference to putting things out of reach to children?

Something that made some of us chuckle was a stainless steel sink hanging on the gallery wall. Anyone who has seen the Bill Forsyth film ‘That Sinking Feeling’ will recall the film ending with some stolen kitchen sinks ending up in an art gallery and being much admired by Richard Demarco! ‘Mother Curator’ has now ended but you can find information about the exhibition and artists at Mother Curator | The Glasgow School of Art Exhibitions Department

‘January Blues’ at Grateful Gallery

Our galleries tour finished up in Grateful Gallery to see ‘January Blues’, another group exhibition. We were made very welcome by the gallery hosts who told us about some of the artworks and artists including one of the artists who creates artwork with the movement of her eyes. Grateful have a new exhibition every month and the next one, ‘Looking for love’ will open on 5th February.

The walking group is funded by The National Lottery Community Fund.
