a soft place to land

Different textile pieces of varied colours and textures cover up the space. Patches and other thread patterns are stitched onto the fabrics.

a soft place to land

a soft place to land is an exhibition of textile sculptures and wall quilts inspired by natural elements. Stitched by Bel Pye, this exhibition holds a sensory space within texture, play and rest. Most of the materials used are recycled or repurposed. a soft place to land has challenged the artist to increase the size of their work, as most of their previous work was lap-sized and often made whilst watching telly.

Events

Bel will be delivering school workshops throughout the exhibition.

Bel Pye will be doing an artist talk event, open to the public, on Friday the 11th of October (1-2pm). This talk will be supported by a BSL-English interpreter. Read more about the event and get a free ticket here: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/artist-talk-with-bel-pye-tickets-954947793557

Scottish Mental Health Arts Festival

This exhibition is part of SMHAF! This year’s Scottish Mental Health Arts Festival takes place across Scotland from 10 – 27 October 2024, exploring the theme of ‘In/Visible’.

We are so delighted a soft place to land is included in this year’s busy programme of events exploring how the arts and creativity can support people to live mentally healthier lives.

View SMHAF’s page for a soft place to land and browse the wider programme on their website.

About ReConnect

ReConnect is an open studio for people with lived experience of mental ill health. Workshops are delivered annually in four, ten-week terms. Taking part gives you access to materials; professional production facilities for print making, ceramics, painting and glass studios; and the opportunity to be part of a community of likeminded people.

Artwork can be exhibited in our gallery and online, and through our standing in the art world we receive invitations to contribute to artistic programmes in the UK and further.

We work with community groups both locally, in Glasgow, and nationally, in Scotland, to develop individually designed projects which allow people across Scotland to benefit from our expertise without having to travel into the centre of Glasgow.
