International Woman’s Week is the perfect time to share this powerful and fun body of work – still a work in progress and with two new additions, straight off the easel! The artist Celine Mcilmunn began painting the Mighty Women series back in 2016 when Project Ability hosted a Superheroes themed exhibition. The show was amazing and Celine’s first three Mighty Women made their debut there! We approached Celine about selling these paintings as posters in our gallery shop, and since then we’ve had the privilege of showing off the collection in our online shop (reopening online in April!). Each of the paintings depicts someone who defied stereotypes and made a remarkable difference to the world. If any of these women are unknown to you it is well worth checking them out! We welcome Bernadette Devlin and Lotte Reiniger to the collection…
Celine Mcilmunn is an artist with a mixed media practice and she is also a much loved Project Ability tutor. She is the lead facilitator of our ReConnect workshops, and also tutors our young artists in the Create programme. Her imagination and skill see her own work branch out into several mediums, learning new skills and techniques which she passes onto others with great patience and care. This body of work speaks for itself, and each portrait radiates strength, compassion and inspiration.
