Our walking group had some more exhibition visits on Wednesday 8 November. We started with a walk to the south of the river for a first-time visit to Stallan-Brand, in a big pink building in Nicholson Street. This is an architect’s office but they also have a very nice gallery space. We were there to see ‘Artists of Scotland’, an exhibition of photographic portraits of artists in their studios by Jeremy Sutton-Hibbert. Some of us had great fun identifying the artists we recognised, either from their faces or from the artworks that surrounded them. Most of us knew Beagles and Ramsay straight away, even though they had boxes over their heads. We’d been to see their exhibition in GoMA recently and recognised some of the items that surrounded them in their studio.
There are 45 pictures in the exhibition, which is less than half the amount that Sutton-Hibbert has made so far in this project. The full set can be viewed at www.jeremysuttonhibbert.com and the exhibition at Stallan-Brand runs until 21st December.
On the way back to base we decided to pop into The Briggait. We could see that there were some sculptures arranged in the main space and went in for a closer look. It was lucky that we did as we ran into our good friend Mike Inglis who had been a resident artist in Project Ability some years ago. We also met one of the exhibiting artists, Salli Yule-Tsingas who talked to us for a while about her work before we headed off.
