Walking Group Visit GOMA and Cass Art

On Wednesday 31st July the Walking Group visited Cass Art and GOMA. In Cass Art we saw ‘Quiet’ by Drew Thomson, an exhibit of figurative paintings and portraits. The title reflects the relaxed state of the figures in the work and encourages the viewer to slow down, sit and enjoy looking at the pieces. Thomson was a contestant on Sky Arts ‘Portrait Artist of the Year’ series 10, he works and lives in Glasgow. The exhibit is in the gallery section of Cass Art until August 6th.

GOMA was a completely different story to ‘Quiet’ as the exhibit we had gone to see ‘Head in a Bell’ by Scott Myles was inaccessible for some of the group due to noise level. Myself and another participant had to leave almost immediately. What I did manage to catch was that a synthesizer was making fluctuating noise. The rest of the group enjoyed it immensely and spent some time looking at and listening to the work.

On the ground floor we saw ‘Offerings for Escalante‘ by Enzo Camacho and Ami Lien. As part of Glasgow International, this explores Southeast Asia’s relationship with sugar. It features a video installation of the experimental documentary ‘Langit Lupa (Heaven and Earth)’. It is an hour long with seating provided. Stunning collage pieces with leaves and butterflies as recurring themes, are hung around the main walls in the area. The exhibit runs until September 1st.
