Walking group visit The Museum of Anatomy at Glasgow University

The Museum of Anatomy at Glasgow University

Our latest walking group outing was to the museum of anatomy at Glasgow University. It was a lovely afternoon and as we arrived early we sat down on the grass in the shade of a tree until it was time to go inside. After a short introduction to the history of the collections we were free to have a look around at the exhibits, many of which had been there for more than a century. The anatomical specimens are mostly human material but there are also a number from various other animals. Some have been preserved in wet chemicals such as alcohol and others by being dried and varnished.

Photography is not permitted inside the museum and there are also strict regulations around sketching but some of our group did some very quick drawings of a skeleton that was on display. The museum is only open to the general public on the last Wednesday of each month. Tickets need to be booked in advance and are free of charge.
