On display with the National Galleries of Scotland – Morgan & Hammond!

On display now at National Galleries of Scotland!

In late 2023 National Galleries of Scotland acquisitioned 12 screen prints made by Cameron Morgan and Charlie Hammond. Two of these screen prints have made their way into the National Galleries of Scotland, and can now be seen hanging alongside Roy Lichtenstein’s In the Car!

The collaborative artistic practice between Cameron Morgan and Charlie Hammond began in 2017 and has focused on turning everyday objects into clear, bold screen prints.

The prints on display at National Galleries of Scotland come from their first project together. The idea originated from Charlie’s matchbox collection, which he had organised in scrapbooks in his studio. Cameron Morgan came across these during a studio visit, and there was an immediate fascination. These matchbox books became the inspiration for their first collaboration, and the resulting prints set the tone for their ongoing partnership and approach to screen printing.

Having these early prints on display gives visitors a chance to see how their partnership began and how their style developed. It’s a milestone for Cameron and Charlie and a clear highlight of their contribution to contemporary Scottish art.

You can find Everything Matches (bird) and Not Everything Matches (pyramid) on display in Modern One, next to In the Car by Lichtenstein, as part of the permanent collection. They are in Room 14, titled Pattern, which has a focus of pattern and modernity, pop culture, memory and nostalgia.

A perfect match!
