Walking group visit Modern Institute and Project Ability Gallery

The Modern Institute

Our visits to The Modern Institute galleries are always interesting. Before each visit we request a member of staff to give us a short introduction to the works on show as this can be really helpful. Contemporary art can sometimes be difficult to access and having someone with some knowledge about the artist and their intent can help to open up an appreciation of the work. We are grateful to Callum in Osborne Street and Mae in Aird’s Lane who are always on hand to give us information and to answer our questions. For this last outing we went to see an exhibition by Constantin Thun in Osborne Street which runs until 16 May and in Aird’s Lane we saw exhibitions by Elisabeth Kley and Sue Tompkins. Their exhibitions run until 13 May. We were also excited to hear that The Modern Institute will be opening a third gallery in time for Glasgow International Festival of Contemporary Art.

Together | Apart by Neuk Collective at Project Ability

We finished off our outing with a return to Project Ability gallery to see ‘Together | Apart’, an exhibition by members of Neuk Collective, a community of neurodivergent artists from across Scotland. We were happy to be greeted by Kanae Park who was invigilating and had been in our studios recently to host a calligraphy workshop. This is a very varied exhibition and features works by over fifty artists, including Grant Glennie, Bel Pye and Luca Cockayne who make work in our ReConnect studio. This exhibition runs until 23 May as does the remarkable exhibition by Aspire artist Christopher Muir which can be seen in Gallery 2.
