Our regular readers will know that our walking group like to visit the Modern Institute and we have enjoyed exhibitions in the Oswald Street and Aird’s Lane galleries for quite some time. For our latest outing we made our usual visits to both of these and then some of us added on a visit to the new addition of the galleries at 48 Carlton Place.
We started off as usual in the Oswald Street gallery where we were met by Calum who introduced us to the works of Victoria Morton in the exhibition ‘Hitting the Lift’. This is a number of mixed media paintings and recorded music. The exhibition runs until 5 September 2026. Calum then joined us in our walk across to Aird’s Lane where we looked at the work of Cathy Wilkes. This exhibition runs until 19 August. Finally, some of us walked across to Carlton Place on the other side of the Clyde to see the new galleries and the exhibition of works by David Wojnarowicz in ‘Some day this will all be crumbling ruins’ which runs until 8 August.
Unfortunately, the new galleries are not wheelchair accessible as there are steps both outside and inside and we will see if this is somehow rectified when the building is renovated after this current exhibition ends. It should also be noted that this gallery is currently only open on Fridays between 11am to 6pm.
