Stuart Low

Stuart Low has been attending the ReConnect programme at Project Ability for many years and is a valued and longstanding member of the studio community. Over this time he has developed a distinctive artistic practice and has exhibited his work regularly in Project Ability exhibitions. His work is also available through the Project Ability shop, where he sells his original artworks. Stuart is also a regular volunteer in the shop, helping out each week and supporting the team while sharing his enthusiasm for the artwork with visitors.

Stuart has taken part in a number of exhibitions beyond the gallery as well. His work has been included in exhibitions at Gartnavel Royal Hospital, where he contributed to bringing uplifting artworks into hospital spaces. He has also exhibited alongside other artists at the Cass Art Show and at Platform, where he presented larger-scale paintings. Stuart’s work was included in a group exhibition with Outside In, further expanding the audience for his work.

Outside of the studio, Stuart is an enthusiastic member of Project Ability’s weekly walking group. These regular visits to galleries and exhibitions across the city provide inspiration for his own practice and allow him to engage with a wide range of art and artists. He also regularly attends life drawing classes.

Stuart’s subject matter and approach have evolved over the years. Recently, he has been enjoying creating large, abstract paintings that explore bold combinations of colour and movement. Alongside these expressive works, he also produces more delicate drawings in colour pencil and graphite, often focusing on flowers and natural forms. His sketchbooks are packed with observational studies and floral motifs, reflecting his ongoing fascination with nature and his dedication to drawing as a daily practice.
