One of our brand new volunteers, Jack McElroy, organised An Alternative Burns Night at the Flying Duck on Sunday 27 January, and very generously offered to gift all donations to Project Ability. The event was in response to cuts to creative funding and education, and aimed to celebrate “the life and work of Robert Burns” by showcasing the work of contemporary poets, writers, performers and artists.
“As Burns celebrations happen all over Scotland on the 25th of January each year and this year again, lets raise the question of why we continue to celebrate the creative talent of Burns each year yet cut funding that would support the success of future creative talent.”
The event included performances by Mandulu and Hephzibah, Nina Stirling, Choirstaidhiona, Olivia Jane Topalian, Ariana Mande, Purina Alpha and was hosted by Jack McElroy. It was a great success, and raised a fantastic £211.74 for our charity!
Many thanks to Jack, all the performers, the audience who generously donated and to the Flying Duck!
