This week we are very pleased to bring you the work of Aspire artist, Ralph Douglas. Ralph has been attending the workshops for many years and throughout that time we have seen him paint many portraits and self-portraits rendered in an expressionist style; recalling the Romantic paintings of the past.
Ralph applies layers of paint in soft swathes to carefully make his pictures, combining intricate detail with painterly expression. It is in the unique way that he paints his subjects, with their happy faces, that achieve such a disarming light-heartedness.
Ralph Douglas will be exhibiting new work in our last show of the year, Picture This, a group exhibition of paintings by artists from Aspire and Create opening on 1st December.
