Doreen Kay x SCLD

Following on in the series of commissioned work by SCLD, today we are delighted to present the work by Doreen Kay.

Doreen has been attending Project Ability’s Aspire workshops for many years and was delighted to be one of 9 artists to be commissioned by SCLD. The artists worked on a series of illustrations that would be used across SCLD’s website and marketing materials. You can find out more about the project here.

Doreen’s final artwork is a combination of black pen on painted and printed paper. Doreen also loved trying out collage to express her ideas.

The group began the project by discussing the theme of Human Rights and sharing personal stories and observations. Doreen enjoyed taking part in these initial discussions and focused on themes of having a voice, being listened too, the right to work and the right to be part of a community and to belong.

Thank you to Project Ability tutors Val and Jason who supported the artists during this project.

If you have an idea for a commission for one or more of our artists then we would love to hear from you! Email info@project-ability.co.uk to start the conversation.

Each week we’ll be presenting another artists final illustrations, we hope you’ll follow along! In the meantime you can hear more from SCLD and Project Ability tutor Valerie here.
