This week Glasgow International (GI) has announced details of its world- renowned biennial festival of contemporary art. The 10th edition of GI will take place between Friday 7th June – Sunday 23rd June 2024.
Following this announcement we are delighted to share the exciting news that Aspire artist Jonathan McKinstry will have a solo show at Project Ability as part of GI 2024! A huge congratulations for Jonathan, this is a wonderful achievement. McKinstry often enjoys working large scale and produces bold, colourful and distinctive artworks. He has been attending Project Ability for many years and has had work exhibited in local bars and galleries, has recently collaborated with Glasgow graffiti artist PANDA and was commissioned by SCLD to design large murals along with Aspire artist Cameron Morgan for Learning Disability Week. Last year McKinstry was further commissioned by SCLD to design a range of illustrations for their new branding and marketing. Back in 2019, his love for wrestling led to a collaborative project with Glasgow School of Art graduate, Issy Arnold, which resulted in Grado (wrestling and TV star) attending as a life model for an unforgettable night at Project Ability! (Read more here).
McKinstry will be working with tutor and artist Jason Davis in the lead up to the exhibition. We will be releasing more details about the exhibition in the coming months but we can reveal that the theme will be Food and Games Nostalgia from Jonathan’s childhood. Think Findus crispy pancakes, Tizer, Buckaroo and Hungry Hippos – we can’t wait!
