For the past few weeks, a group of six students from the Glasgow School of Art have been working with some of our artists as part of the GSA Project. This week, we’d like to introduce you to one of them, Susan Breckenridge, who is working with Judith Abubakar.
“I am working in collaboration with Judith, an artist who I have worked with before [Susan was part of the pilot group last year]. We’re working on a free standing screen comprising four panels, two having silk paintings on them and two having stained effect windows. Over the past three weeks we have been working on the silk paintings of the panels using images of birds and flowers we both like. We will now be working on the stain glass window for the other two panels.
Getting the opportunity to work with Judith in Project ability has been so good, I’ve learned so much from her: her ability to just make work for the sake of making has been really refreshing! The whole experience has reminded me of why I started to make work and who I make work for. We have a great time chatting while we are making the work, lots of laughing and joking goes on! The atmosphere in the studio is really relaxed and a pleasure to work in.”
The students will showcase the work they have done so far and give a talk about their project next week. Keep an eye out for photographs of the pop up showcase!
