This week, we are very pleased to show you two exciting collaborative works by Aspire artists, John Beaton and Tracy Thomson.
John makes text based works that feature crosses, circles and his own signature as recurrent motifs. This mark making process appears sporadic at first but with every finished piece, John asserts an order and clarity to these unruly sequences by concluding with a trademark signature.
Tracy is a painter who creates washy landscapes to which light appears to fall and shatter, like breaking waves. In Tracy’s paintings we are never quite aware of whether she is depicting land, sea or air; instead the artist creates a free world composed only of water, light, abstract form and evocative colour.
The combined style of these two artists takes on new and unexpected colours, forms and contradictions.
