Jonathan McKinstry x SCLD

Following on in the series of commissioned work by SCLD, we are delighted to present the work by Jonathan McKinstry.

McKinstry was also one of two artists to create large murals for SCLD around the theme of Human Rights that were displayed during Scottish Learning Disability Week. The Murals can be viewed here.

Jonathan has been attending Project Ability’s Aspire workshops for many years and was delighted to be one of 9 artists to be further commissioned by SCLD for new marketing illustrations. The artists worked on a series of icons that would be used across SCLD’s website and marketing output. You can find out more about the project here.

The artists used a variety of techniques and materials including collage, charcoal, printmaking, pen and ink and acrylic paint. McKinstry always likes to work big and this project was no different, he was delighted to work on large scale pieces through the design process. He wanted to be experimental and to try out as many ideas as he had before concentrating on his final few designs. As discussions developed around themes of Human Rights within the group, McKinstry focused on themes of independence, having a home and also having a voice.

Thank you to Project Ability tutors Val and Jason who supported the artists during this project.

If you have an idea for a commission for one or more of our artists then we would love to hear from you! Email info@project-ability.co.uk to start the conversation.
