During the last block of workshops we were lucky to be joined by a fabulous team of volunteer artists. Each equipped with their own skill set and unique experience, they worked alongside and helped our artists create and experiment with new work. Today we’re catching up with Cerys who volunteered with the Create workshops.
‘I graduated from Glasgow School of Art in 2014 with a BA in Painting & Printmaking. I then went on to train as an Upholsterer, which I worked as until the start of the pandemic. I now have a less creative job, and since having a baby in 2020, I haven’t had much time or capacity for my own creative practice, so it has been really wonderful to be in such an environment again.
I have been volunteering with the Create group which has been a wonderful experience; I have found the uninhibited approach that some of the artists have to their practice to be really joyful and inspiring, and is something that I would like to bring into my own practice. Working with the artists has reminded me how fun it can be to make work, that it can be freeing, something I haven’t felt since before art school!
The studio environment is very friendly and warm, with supportive and generous tutors. I would highly recommend volunteering with Project Ability if you get the chance, it’s very fulfilling to share your skills, and you will find yourself learning a lot too.’ – Cerys
Thank you to Cerys for giving up her time and volunteering with us! We’re so glad to hear that you are feeling inspired and creative again too – looking forward to seeing some new work from you in the near future!
