Recycling Week!

It’s Recycling Week at Project Ability!

This week, we’re turning our focus inward and taking a closer look at how we manage waste across our studios and workshops. As part of our ongoing commitment to sustainability, we’ve kicked off Recycling Week!

Throughout the week, we’re running a full waste audit in our creative spaces. We’ve set up clearly marked bins for paper, glass, food waste and more, encouraging everyone to take part in sorting their rubbish properly. It’s all part of a bigger picture: to better understand where most of our waste is coming from and how we can reduce it.

Supporting us in this important work is Andy, who is currently undertaking a paid summer internship at Project Ability, focused on sustainability. At the end of the week, Andy will review the results of our waste audit. This will give us a clearer idea of what changes we can make to reduce our carbon footprint.

Next week, we’ll come together as a group for a ‘Net Zero’ meeting, an open and collaborative discussion about what we’ve learned and how we can build better, greener practices into our day-to-day work. We’ll be chatting about reducing single-use materials and rethinking how we recycle studio supplies.

Did you know?
Sustainability is already an integral part of our creative work. We upcycle painted canvas used in our art workshops into one-of-a-kind tote bags, available to purchase in our shop. Each bag is a unique piece of art and a creative way to reuse materials that might otherwise go to waste.

Last year, we also made the switch from using vinyl lettering for exhibition signage to creating one large printed paper sign instead. Not only did this reduce plastic waste, but the reverse side of that sign was later repurposed as a blank canvas for a large-scale artwork by one of our artists.

We’re proud to be taking steps toward a more sustainable future, and we’re excited to see what positive changes come from this week’s efforts. Stay tuned for updates and insights as we share monthly sustainability news from our studios!
