Scottish Mask and Puppet Centre

The Walking Group Visit The Scottish Mask and Puppet Centre!

One of the places our group has been meaning to visit for a while now is the Scottish Mask and Puppet Centre so we were delighted to go along there last week. It seems that this place is a bit of a well kept secret, which is a shame as there is so much of great interest to be found here.

Sarah and Malcolm who run the centre made us extremely welcome, and Malcolm very kindly gave us a fantastic tour of the building, introducing us to many of the masks and puppets and giving us information on the history of how some of them were made and how they came to be in the collection. He’s clearly very passionate about the collection and concerned for its future preservation. We also popped into the studio of Grant Mason, who works in the building making props, puppets and prosthetics for the film and television industry. You can see some of his work at Grant Mason FX | Grant Mason FX

The centre, at 8 – 10 Balcarres Avenue, G12 0QF, presents regular shows and exhibitions and can also be visited by appointment outside of scheduled events. More information can be found on their website at The Scottish Mask & Puppet Centre | Glasgow Scotland
