Walking Group: Mary Quant

On Wednesday 27th September the walking group headed to Kelvingrove Art Galleries to see a retrospective of the fashion designer Mary Quant’s work. This exhibition has travelled from the V&A and features over 100 pieces. The majority of these are clothing items donated by the original owners and displayed with stories of who they were at the time and why they were drawn to buy each piece. These are accompanied by magazines, adverts and photo shoots as well as two films on Quant’s work and legacy in the fashion and design industry. It showcases much from her high end work along with pattern pieces and her groundbreaking lycra underwear. Also getting the spotlight are her fashion dolls and make-up. Some of my favourite items were the PVC rain-wear, so bright and fun. Her flower logo is to be seen all over, especially in the gift shop. Sadly this is a photography free exhibition so we couldn’t get any photos inside.

Mary Quant: Fashion Revolutionary’ will be at Kelvingrove until October the 22nd.
