Walking group visit Gartnavel Hospital Gardens (Part 1)

Inspiration and Sketching trip to Gartnavel Hospital Gardens

The gardens at Gartnavel Hospital are a great place for a walk in nature and at the heart of the area is the walled garden and summerhouse. Our walking group had a visit there last week and enjoyed some very interesting chats with some of the gardeners. They were full of information about the plants and very generous in sharing their time and stories with us.

Gardening is well known for its therapeutic benefits, and having a garden where patients can visit and help the staff and volunteers plays an important role in helping them get back to wellness.

The walking group will be back visiting the gardens for a few trips over the next few weeks and artwork created during or inspired by these sessions will be part of an exhibition on show at Gartnavel as part of the Scottish Mental Health Arts Festival (SMHAF) later in the year.
