Walking Group visit National Galleries of Scotland: Modern One and Modern Two

During the break to workshop time, our walking group usually has one or two trips a bit further afield. This will often include a visit to Edinburgh and a choice of some of the many places to visit there. We had considered both the Talbot Rice and City Arts Centre for this outing but were disappointed to find that both galleries’ lifts are currently out of order so they had to be struck off our hit list. We decided on National Galleries of Scotland: Modern One and Two, which was a great choice as not only do they currently have a selection of wonderful pieces by many internationally renowned artists on show, but also two prints made by our very own Project Ability artist Cameron Morgan in collaboration with Charlie Hammond.

We took the bus to Haymarket and had a very pleasant walk to the galleries in glorious sunshine. We started off in Modern Two with a look at the Joan Eardley exhibition before meeting up with Project Ability tutor Sharon Quigley who had arranged for us to have use of the learning room to have lunch. This was quite exciting as Sharon led us through parts of the building that are usually not open to visitors and there are lots of interesting things to see in the learning room.

After lunch we were ready to take on Modern One and spent the next hour exploring the galleries there. It was a delight to come across Cameron and Charlie’s prints hung next to a huge Roy Lichtenstein painting.

It was a smashing day out and lovely to meet up with Sharon who added such a lot of fun and interest to the day.
