This week our Artwork of the Week is looking at ‘Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts‘, a wonderfully surreal painting by Gary Turner. This watercolour painting depicts an image from ‘Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts’, the anime-influenced animated television series created by Radford Sechrist, adapted from his 2015 webcomic Kipo. We love the giant fluffy owl looking creature!
Gary Turner has long been a big fan of anime and Japanese influenced art. Much of his work is influenced by this and it was over Lockdown that he discovered ‘Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeats’. It was a bit of a life saver for Gary over the long days of Lockdown. It is a fascinating sounding series and well worth a look if you haven’t heard of it before! It has certainly inspired some amazing art from Gary Turner, which we were so taken with we put Gary Turner forward to have these works in our most recent exhibition!
Gary is a dedicated and talented artist who has been part of Project Ability’s Friday group for several years. He is currently one of three artists in the exhibition, ‘Electric Dreams’, in which we have teamed up with fellow support studios ActionSpace in London and Venture Arts in Manchester. Check out the virtual gallery!
Although our online gallery shop is closed for another week, we have made a small selection of Gary’s exhibition work available for sale through this link. Check them out!
