Lockdown has stifled a lot of our normal activities. Most of us have had to stop doing some of the things we love. The artist we look at today, like many artists around the world, has managed to make the most of Lockdown by focusing on her creative practice.
Amie McSherry has been coming to the Project Ability workshops for about two years. As one of our newer artists, it’s been a pleasure to get to know her and her artwork. Born with a serious heart condition, Amie has had to shield throughout the last year, so her art really has been her salvation. She enjoys the independence of living alone but this means she has been very isolated during the pandemic. Amie is an artist who has suffered from depression most of her life, which has made this past year all the more challenging.
Project Ability tutor and artist Alison has been working and chatting with Amie via weekly video calls, which has become a great way for Amie to get some feedback and share her work with us all at Project Ability. It’s been wonderful to see the portraits she has been working on at home. Her aesthetic style is distinct with an illustrative flare that tells a story about these people. It’s easy to imagine these portraits coming to life with all the personality and detail given to each one.
We’ve created a new artist page on our website for Amie, featuring some of these portraits. We imagine we will be seeing some more portraits by Amie in the upcoming months, as we get closer to our ‘100 Portraits‘ exhibition!
