Project Ability Walking Group Visit Hunterian Art Gallery
On Wednesday 7th February the Walking Group headed to Glasgow Uni to visit the Huntarian art gallery. We went to see an exhibition of sketches and paintings from the collection of James L Gordon. Working for most of the 20th century Gordon designed costumes for stage and this work is present here with that of others from his private collection. Born in Paisley, Gordon was prolific in the London stage and screen industry. His collection of others work includes John Byrne, Cecil Beaton, David Hockney, Patick Caulfield, Edward Burra, Paul Nash and Rex Whistler. There are set designs for Hollywood movies, costumes for stars of film, tv and music. Many are very recognisable such as musical Cats, Marilyn Monroe and The Jackson Five.
“Stage and Screen: Designs from the James L Gordon Collection” runs until 25th February and is a must see!
