We take a last look at our current exhibition, ‘Andrew Boyle and Michael Draper’ with this Artwork of the Week titled ‘Buckhaven, Scotland’, by Michael Draper.
Michael Draper paints from photographs he has taken himself. Often from his travels and holidays, they feature the Scottish landscape and natural places of beauty. ‘Buckhaven, Scotland’ is a gorgeous landscape painting, encompassing a vast and expansive view over the fields and hills, with some wind turbines just visible on the horizon line.
Michael often works with water colour pencils to draw out his composition, before adding water to his marks. This technique gives the paintings a half drawn, half painted look. Always with a muted colour palette, this deliberate way of working creates a quiet strength in the landscapes, highlighting their beauty and scale, harmoniously combining the two charactersitics into a unique and peaceful artwork.
We’ll be sad to see this exhibtion come down next week, but there is still time to come by to see it. Saturday is the final day. We have an exhibition catalgue printed and available for purchase in our online shop, with images of all of the artworks, text about the artists, and several gallery images too!
